“None of Us Are Choosing to Be Out There”
“I was on the street with kids that were magnificent.” At age 13, Izeekiel Lundsten fled violence and sexual abuse at home, and ended up on the streets of Seattle. Thirty years later, she talks to her husband Michael Lundsten about the family she formed with other so-called “street rat kids,” what people still don’t understand about homeless youth, and “the absolutely best Christmas present I ever got” that enabled her to survive.
This story was recorded in August 2014 at YWCA Opportunity Place in Seattle. It was facilitated by Cristina Kim of StoryCorps and produced by Haley Jo Lewis of Seattle University.
