“I Would Walk Through the School Hallways With My Head Down”
“I was embarrassed to come to school every single day knowing I was a homeless girl.” Three years ago, Lika and her family were evicted from their home for falling behind on rent payments. At the time, Lika was in 8th grade. In this conversation, Lika talks to her teacher and advisor, Lynette Finau, about what it’s like to attend school while living in a homeless shelter.
Their story aired on KUOW in May of 2015. That same month, StoryCorps producer Eve Claxton interviewed Lika and Lynette at a community event at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Visitor Center. That interview is included in this clip, courtesy of KUOW.
