“I Was Getting Ready to Have a Baby, and I Didn’t Have a Home”
“You were faced with a decision that no mom should be having to make.” During this conversation with Argelia Grassfield, her supervisor and “guardian angel,” Gina Enochs describes the day she realized that her addiction to methamphetamine had not only led to homelessness; it was preventing her from providing for her child. It took a painful decision to break free of that lifestyle. Now drug-free and rebuilding her relationship with her son, Gina is working for the YWCA Seattle ǀ King ǀ Snohomish, helping families in the child welfare system.
This story was recorded in July 2014 in Lynnwood, Wash., at YWCA Family Village. It was facilitated by Jill Glaser of StoryCorps and produced by Haley Jo Lewis of Seattle University, with assistance from Lindsey Habenicht and Paige McAdam.
