From Haiti to the United States, Finding and Losing Home
“I lived in fear a lot; I lived in hunger a lot. So being able to go to America was going to save my life.” Born in Haiti and raised in an orphanage until age 4, Danielle D’Haiti believed as a child that being adopted by an American family would mean always having a safe home. Coming to the United States created a different set of challenges for her, though. Now a mother of two, Danielle tells her friend TaTeasha Davis Brown about adjusting to a new culture as a child, and losing her home as an adult in the wake of a divorce.
