For Mother of Six, Discrimination Is Hardest Part of Homelessness
“I was a single mom, I had six kids, everyone looked at me as if I was going to just take their property and trash it,” says Dawnell Lewis. Dawnell is a former military wife who left a domestic violence situation with her six kids. She tells Denise Miller of YWCA Seattle ǀ King ǀ Snohomish about the challenges of finding housing when you have a large family and the discrimination she faced in trying to find landlords who would accept Section 8 housing vouchers.
This story was recorded in August 2014 at YWCA Opportunity Place in Seattle.
